I dedicate this book to my dad, Rev Don Matthews. I grew up in his home, under his and mom’s loving guidance for eighteen years. Dad pastored Bethel Memorial Church full time and also worked very hard as an industrial engineer at Ford Motor Company. I learned so much from his hard work, dedication and sacrifice for our family and devoted ministry to the Lord.
Like many dual-career pastors, Dad spent more hours than I could count doing both jobs well, teaching me an exemplary work ethic and a deep love for the Lord. It was probably his example that inspired me to do as many things in life as I could fit in, while hopefully never sacrificing the most important ones.
So much of my doctrinal understanding of the Word comes from his teaching and preaching for all those years I grew up listening to him and learning. I remember so many times hearing him cry out in prayer to the Lord to bless the ministry and lead us in the paths of righteousness.
I will forever be indebted to Dad’s outstanding example of what it means to be a good father, a devoted and hard-working pastor and an honest and sincere man. I can only hope to come as close to his example as possible. Thanks Dad! Love you lots.
