     Election 2008 is History!
Well, the elections are over. Even though I did not win my campaign, we made some great gains for the Floyd County Republican Party. I gratefully thank every one of you who supported me in this campaign. I know the values we represent together live on and we look to a bright future, especially in light of the elections for 2010. By the nation's votes, a strong message has been sent to Washington and to our Party concerning what we feel is important and how best to represent us. I sincerely hope that you will all remain enthusiastic and support us as we go on to the work that is ahead. 2009 will be a huge building year and we really want to take advantage of the gains we made this year. Please join with us as we move forward to advance our ideals of smaller, more responsive government, protection of life and family values and fiscal responsibility that rewards hard work and achievement while caring for those who cannot care for themselves.
God bless you in the road ahead,
   Dave Matthews
   Chairman
   Floyd County Republican Party

He and his wife Cheryl and their four children, Chris, Andrea, Joshua and Nathanael live in Navilleton, Floyds Knobs. Dave served two terms for eight years as a councilman on the Greenville Town Council and was its President for two years. During that time he led the council in resolving important issues such as zoning, fire protection contracts, water utility issues and ordinance revisions.

Dave is a native Hoosier...born in Vincennes, IN in 1954, he graduated from Southport High School in Indianapolis in 1972. Dave graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs in 1976 and served in the Air Force for nineteen years before his retirement in 1995. He was a fighter pilot for the Air Force, flying F-111s, T-38s and Tornados during an exchange tour with the Royal Air Force in England.
Dave received his Masters Degree in Aeronautical Sciences from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in 1985. He had numerous assignments during his Air Force Career as Flight Commander, Executive Officer to the Wing Commander at Cannon Air Force Base, Flight Examiner, RAF Strike Command Exchange Staff Officer and ended his career as a Lieutenant Colonel and Operations Officer for a T-38 Squadron in Texas.
Dave started working for United Parcel Service in Louisville in 1995 after his retirement from the Air Force. He is currently a Captain on the Airbus A-300. He spent all of 2006 as a Captain on the MD-11 and flew around the world several times.

Dave also serves as an elder at his church, Cornerstone Community Church in Floyds Knobs and enjoys playing his trombone in the church band with his three sons each Sunday. He is on the Board of Directors for a regional minister's group, the Bethel Ministerial Association and preaches frequently.

After completing his term as councilman for Greenville, Dave was elected as the Chairman of the Republican Party and serves in that function now. Dave decided to run for Floyd County Commissioner in the second district with the hope of continuing his service to his community, helping with the issues of county zoning and planning and helping shape the financial and structural future of the county. He is a firm believer in family values and commitment to responsible government that is responsive to its electorate and proactively addresses the needs of its citizens. He would appreciate your vote for him in November as Floyd County's newest Commissioner.
