BETHEL MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION - MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Bethel Youth Camp and Conference Center, Dale, IN
July 21, 2022

Those present: Chairman Rev John Wongler, Vice Chairman Rev Steve Owens, Treasurer Rev Phil Frye, Secretary Rev David Matthews, Rev Joe Greene, Rev Keenan Smith, Rev Josh Powell, Rev Kevin Horath, Chairman Emeritus Rev Don Horath, Emeritus Members Rev Jim Wilson and Rev Buddy Holder, Rev Rhonda Powell, Rev Mark Phillips, Rev Tom Sullivan, Rev Tom Long, Rev Jarrod Herald and Rev Caleb Holbrook.

Chairman Wongler called the meeting to order and Rev Owens led in prayer. Rev Joe Greene read a passage of Scripture from 1 Peter 1: 3-5. Chairman Wongler then expressed his appreciation to Directors Rev Smith, Revs Josh and Rhonda Powel and all those who worked so hard to make this year’s Senior Conference a great success.

Secretary Matthews was asked to read the minutes from the March 29 Membership Meeting at Crosby Church. Since everyone had previously read the minutes from those meetings, Rev Powell moved that the minutes be accepted as written. Rev Frye seconded the motion and all approved.

Treasurer Frye was asked to review the financial report. The balance at the start of the quarter was $15,956. Income received was $24,959 and expenditures were $25,906. The balance at the end of the quarter was $14,988. Rev Owens moved that the report be accepted, Rev Kevin Horath seconded the motion and all approved.

In the absence of Foreign Missions Secretary Rev Jose Rodriguez, Rev Matthews reviewed the report that had been submitted by Rev Rodriguez. He reported that giving to missions through this quarter was $4,905 and the bank balance was $13,026. He also briefed that sixteen missionaries were being supported. Rev Greene moved that the missions report be accepted. Rev Horath seconded the motion and all approved.

Rev Matthews submitted the report from Bethel Publishing House. He reported a previous balance of $7. This quarter BPH received $78 from Hillside Bethel for $68 worth of literature and materials, leaving an end of quarter balance for the year of $17. Everyone was encouraged to use BPH to purchase their Sunday School literature. Rev Frye moved that the report be accepted, Rev Owens seconded the motion and all approved.

Vice Chairman Owens briefed the membership on current plans for the Fall BMA Conference to be held at Full Gospel Evangelistic Center in Lincoln, Illinois. The conference will start with the evening service Tuesday, October 4, 2022. The theme will be “Arise” from Isaiah 60. It is expected that the Board and Membership meetings will be held Thursday afternoon, October 6. Rev Owens stated that more detailed information would be coming very soon.

Rev Matthews briefed members on plans for the Spring 2023 Conference to be held at Bethel Youth Camp and Conference Center in April. Firm dates and details will be briefed at the Fall Conference. Plans are being made to conduct the same theme that was originally planned for Spring 2020 before it was postponed due to Covid. Two afternoons of working on the camp grounds will be planned during the conference as well.

Chairman Wongler noted that our use of a table to greet and register guests at evening services seemed to work well and enhance security on the grounds. He noted that he felt further discussions on security measures at camp would be appropriate for future camps.

Rev Owens briefed the board that their church group will be leading another set of work days before winter on the camp grounds, currently scheduled for October 19-22. Details will be discussed at the Fall Conference. All members are invited to attend these work days.

Chairman Wongler thanked everyone for the great involvement by so many in preparation for this year’s Junior and Senior Camps. He especially noted the amount of plumbing repairs and thanked the caretaker and Pastor Frye. He also mentioned the need for repairs on the all weather dorm external doors, roofs on the main dorms and further electrical work on the RV sites. He led in further discussion on fundraising for camp, and possible additions to features to entertain campers during our conferences.

Rev Herald mentioned how helpful their online church application has been for their church and recommended that it might be useful for the BMA as well. He specifically mentioned “Sub Splash” and its internet content for advertising future events and activities. Rev Kevin Horath volunteered to research that for the BMA and report back by the Fall Conference about its useability for us.
ACTION: Rev Kevin Horath will research online applications for the BMA and report back to the board on costs and useability at the Fall Conference at Lincoln in October.

No further action or discussion arising, Rev Owens moved that we adjourn the meeting. Rev Greene seconded the motion, Rev Rhonda Powell added a third and all approved.
