BETHEL MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION BOARD MEETING
Bethel Youth Camp and Conference Center
May 3, 2019
Those present: Chairman Rev Don Horath, Secretary Rev David Matthews, Rev Joe Greene, Rev John Wongler, Rev Keenan Smith, Rev Josh Powell and Emeritus member Rev Jim Wilson.
Chairman Rev Don Horath called the meeting to order and Rev Greene led in prayer. Chairman Horath expressed his appreciation to Rev Wongler, Rev Matthews and the ladies present who had planned and coordinated a very successful Spring Conference at the Conference Center.
Secretary Matthews was asked to read the board meeting minutes from the January 11 Board Meeting at Tallwood Chapel, Indianapolis, IN. All members had previously reviewed the minutes. Therefore, Rev Wongler moved that the minutes be accepted as written. Rev Powell seconded the motion and all approved the minutes.
As Treasurer Rev Frye was absent from the meeting, Rev Greene was asked to review the financial report for 2019. The balance at the start of the quarter was $6,608. Total income for the quarter was $7,856 and expenses were $8,798 leaving a balance of $5,666. It was noted that $3,000 had been received to date for harvesting trees from Camp property so far this year. Rev Smith moved that the report be accepted. Rev Wongler seconded the motion and all approved.
Rev Matthews submitted the report from Bethel Publishing House. He reported that materials purchased from our churches came to $187 while amount submitted to BPH was $214. This resulted in a balance so far this year of $27. Everyone was encouraged to use BPH to purchase their Sunday School literature. Rev Greene moved that the report be accepted. Rev Powell seconded the motion and all approved.
Foreign Missions Secretary Joe Greene presented the Missions report. He reported that giving to missions for the quarter was $9,650, which was $4,156 less than last year. He also reported that native missionary Rev Marcel Louis from Haiti had recently passed away. His wife is continuing the work there. Rev Matthews moved that the missions report be accepted. Rev Wongler seconded the motion and all approved.
Chairman Horath led a discussion of our activities so far at the Spring Conference. He mentioned the evening service, planned work day activities and the forecast of incoming thunderstorms through the evening and following day. He recommended that we cancel the planned evening service and work day activities. All agreed and Rev Smith forwarded an email to all members notifying them of the decision.
Rev Wilson discussed work activities scheduled at the Conference Center and noted the next scheduled work day for June 22. Caretaker Jeremy Howell briefed the board on his planned work to pressure wash and spray paint the dorms prior to camp. He was also asked to repair the missing fascia boards from several dorms.
Chairman Horath discussed wording on BMA Certificates issued to members when they are ordained/licensed. He recommended that wording be added that states, “This certificate is considered property of the BMA and must be returned if annual membership is not paid.” Rev Smith moved that this wording be added and Rev Powell seconded the motion. All approved.
Rev Powell briefed board members on plans for Senior Youth Conference. He presented thumb drives with information included and promotional materials for ministers. He recommended that we strongly consider online registration for future conferences. He stated that cell phone usage would be handled just like it was last year. He also asked that we change the dress code for Senior Youth Conference so that it matched what was required by the school system in Texas. His reasoning was that conference attendees would already have that clothing and would not need to buy new clothes just to come to camp. Rev Powell made the motion that we modify the dress code of Senior Conference to reflect this change. Rev Smith seconded the motion and it passed by a vote of 3 to 1.
No further business coming before the board, Rev Greene moved that we adjourn the meeting. Motion was seconded by Rev Smith and all approved.
