Chairman Owens stated that we need a host church for the Spring and Fall Conferences. He noted that Hillside Bethel Tabernacle invited us to have the Fall Conference for 2021 in Decatur to celebrate their 60th anniversary. The request for hosts will be presented to the general membership in the following meeting.
Chairman Owens reminded everyone that annual membership dues were being collected and asked for an update regarding how many members had already paid. Secretary Matthews noted that we were near 50% collected already.
Chairman Owens led a discussion on projects and work needed to be accomplished at the conference center. Pastor Frye discussed current research into heat pump/furnaces for the all weather dorm versus a high efficiency furnace. Chairman Owens moved that we have Pastor Frye get with Bracket Heating and purchase a high efficiency furnace with a humidifier. Rev Horath seconded the motion and all approved.
ACTION: Rev Frye will coordinate with Bracket Heating on the purchase of a new, high efficiency furnace with a humidifier for the all weather dorm.
Rev Greene expressed concerns about removing the chimney from the all weather dorm before roofing with a metal roof. He shared information that he had discovered in a discussion with Brian Holbrook about eliminating leaks with proper flashing around the chimney. Rev Frye moved that we have Rev Greene find out further information about Holbrook’s abilities to waterproof the chimney instead of removing it and report back to the board. Rev Long seconded the motion and all approved.
ACTION: Rev Greene will confer with Brian Holbrook about all details needed to waterproof the chimney in the all weather dorm and report back to the board at the Spring Conference.
Rev Frye briefed the board on progress with the logging company harvesting trees at the conference center. He believed their work to be completed. However, he expressed concern about how thoroughly the company had repaired gravel roads around the camp. He said he would confer with the company to ensure completion of the contract and repairs to the roads as necessary.
ACTION: Rev Frye will determine completion of the logging operation and brief the board on their repairs to the gravel roads at the Spring Conference.
Recognizing outgoing Chairman Horath’s many years of dedicated service as chairman of the board of directors, Rev Frye moved that Rev Horath be recognized with the title of Chairman Emeritus. Rev Greene seconded the motion and all concurred.
Three of our associated ministers were currently facing serious physical challenges. Rev Wilson had just completed back and neck surgery. Rev Mark Witt was currently scheduled to receive triple bypass surgery in Mexico. And Rev Don Dewing was currently fighting a battle with prostate cancer. Rev Don Horath led the board in a time of anointed and fervent prayer for each of these ministers.
Rev Wongler and his wife Jenny briefed the board on current plans for the 2020 Junior Youth Conference. The theme will be “20/20 Vision” with theme verse from Psalm 119:18 “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.” Dates will be June 22-25, early registration will be $135 prior to May 18th and $170 after that. Details about lessons, sermons, activities and workers was discussed in detail. Handouts were made available to all board members.
No further business coming before the board, Rev Frye moved that we adjourn this portion of the meeting to have dinner together before the evening service and the start of the general membership meeting. Motion was seconded by Rev Greene and all approved. Chairman Owens temporarily dismissed this meeting with intentions to reconvene the board meeting Saturday. As no further business needed to be discussed, the board did not reconvene after the membership meetings.
