WHY POLITICAL PARTIES……
A political party is a group of mobilized citizens bonded together for the purpose of electing candidates to public office.
It is a system for representation; electing someone of like mind.
Listed below are some of the pros for Political Parties:
1. Accountability of public officials
2. Produce results that lead to public confidence
3. Monitor actions of government for the betterment of the people
4. Offer citizens a way to select or elect public officials
5. A check and balance system between Political Parties
6. A place to work out differences so they can be shaped into something for the good of the public
7. Since Political Parties are on-going, they are able to motivate and energize much better than stand alone groups
8. Parties provide a structural framework for citizens to join together and create a climate where sound decisions can be made.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE…
DOES ONE VOTE COUNT???????
In 1992-1994-1996, if only 200 more people per House district would have voted, the control of the House would have been different.
In 1999….if only six more Republican voters would have voted in a mayor's race, we would have won the election.
In 2002, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s race was decided by 8 votes.
In 2002…Representative Jim Atterholt lost by 36 votes.
Even though it seems almost impossible, we have had tie votes in large races. What a difference only a few votes can make!!

OUR ELECTION SYSTEM IS GOVERNED BY…
1. Laws passed by the State Legislature (Indiana Code)
2. Rules of the Indiana Republican State Committee
3. County Rules or Resolutions passed by County Central Committees (County rules and resolutions cannot supercede or contradict the Rules of the State Committee)
4. U.S. Constitution
5. Indiana Constitution
6. Federal Laws
IN ADDITION TO THE LAWS, TRAINING AND GUIDELINES FROM YOUR PARTY OFFICERS, YOU MUST ALSO EXCERISE GOOD JUDGEMENT WHEN WORKING WITH THE ELECTORATE. USE YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND CREATIVITY TO REACH VOTERS.
