VOTER REGISTRATION
We need to register every possible person who is favorable to the Republican Party.
We need to be alert for new potential voters at all times.
We must know who is already registered.
You will receive a list of registered voters prior to each election. Check each name on that list carefully. Add newly registered voters that you have registered after the list was printed. Mark off persons who have passed away or moved to another precinct. Keep the list; it will be valuable to you in future elections. This list also could contain people who would like top volunteer. Many times high school seniors are overlooked. Children of GOP voters who will be 18 on the day of the general election are eligible to register. They can vote in the Primary election as well. The only exceptions are: they cannot vote for school board, any referendum, precinct committeemen or state convention delegate. (IC 3-7-13-3)
In many households, spouses of GOP voters are not registered.
(Always beware, they may be from the opposite party or maybe they just don’t want to take the time to vote.)
Any resident that has moved into your precinct 30 days or more before the election is eligible to register and vote. Be sure they use the VRG-7 for their change of address if they have previously registered.
If someone is not registered and they have moved into your precinct after registration has closed, be sure to make a note and get them registered as soon as registration opens following the election so they will be eligible to vote in the next election.
The voter who moves away may be able to return to their former precinct to vote by completing a VRG 4/12 if they moved within Indiana and are otherwise qualified to vote. This form is used by a voter who: 1. is a resident of Indiana and has changed residence before the election to a new precinct 2. was qualified and registered in the precinct of former residence 3. is otherwise qualified to vote, but not registered in the precinct where the voter now resides. This person must either appear in person at the County Voter registration office at the county of former residence not later than 4:00p.m. on Monday before the election or on election day appear before the inspector of the precinct where the voter formerly lived to request transfer to the current precinct of residence. See form VRG-4/12 for additional information.
Remember we are still dealing with Motor Voter, where license branches and government offices must ask each driver if they wish to register. Government agencies are not going to explain why voting is important and you do not want to wait for four years before unregistered Republicans renew their licenses.
After you stand in line for an hour or two to get your license, most people are not in the mood to discuss voter registration.
The VRG-7 (State Form 50504(12-05) is the form used for normal registration or change of name or address). It is actually an application to register. There is also a VRG 7"i" State Form 50504 (R4/2-04) the "i" stands for the internet form. There is also a VRG-11 State Form 46965 (R10/12/05) which is mostly used in the county voter registration office. You use this form to transfer your registration if you move out of the precinct.
TO REGISTER YOU MUST BE……
1. A citizen of the United States
2. Be 18 years old on or before the next General, Municipal or
Special Election.
3. Must have lived in your precinct at least 30 days before the
Election.
4. Not be in prison after having been convicted of a crime.
Indiana does not use deputy registrars anymore. Anyone can register someone. Once the form is completed, you must deliver the form to the county voter registration office. There are penalties for not returning completed forms in a timely manner.
If the registration application is mailed to the Voter Registration Office, it must be postmarked 29 days prior to any election in order to be processed. (You do not count Election Day.)
Registration closes 29 days prior to any election. Registration opens 14 days after the Primary Election, and it opens on December 1st following the General Election.
Complete all boxes on the form that apply. The precinct committeeman may keep a copy of the completed registration form for their records however the original document containing the original signature must be submitted to the Voter Registration Office.
On Election Day, the voter will be asked for photo identification before being allowed to vote. This must be a US government issued ID, or an Indiana driver's license, military ID or a photo ID issued by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles for persons without a drivers license or Indiana ID. Please instruct your Election Day workers about the new laws that are now in effect.
Always ask questions or make challenges BEFORE allowing the person to sign in to vote.
IN INDIANA, WE DO NOT REGISTER BY PARTY. PARTY AFFILIATION IS DETERMINED BY THE BALLOT WE CALL FOR IN THE PRIMARY ELECTION.
